• Germans like to feel secure. They don't like improvising but plan far ahead.
• Being punctual is very important.
• Evenings are considered to be a time for leisure, so scheduling evening meetings is to be avoided.
• Meals need to be kept short.
• Simplicity, methodology and seriousness are very much appreciated. Tasks are dealt with one by one, negotiations take place slowly and with thorough analysis.
• Subjects are brought up one at a time, once a subject has been dealt with it shouldn't be brought up again.
• German is the preferred language for doing business.
• Germans tend to be perfectionist and team-oriented.
What to do and what not to do
• Do not be overly familiar: call people by their surnames and avoid the more familiar "Du" in communication.
• Don't drink beer during a business meeting.
• Leave a tip after business meals.
Trends
• German people like recyclable products, they are extremely respectful for the environment.
• Don't haggle on product prices, take a direct approach.
